Samuel Davidson was a theologian and biblical scholar. Born in 1806 at Kellswater, Ireland, Davidson was of Scottish Presbyterian decent. In 1824, he began attending the Royal Academical Institute in Belfast, but he did not complete his studies until 1832. He received his LL.D from Aberdeen University in 1838. Lobegott Friedrich Constantin von Tischendorf 1815-1874, orientalist and biblical critic, was born in Legenfeld near Leipzig, Germany, on 18 January 1815 . He was educated at the Plauen Gymnasium (grammar school) in Plauen, Germany, and at the University of Leipzig, where he studied theology, specialising in the New Testament.
